PRESS RELEASE MRV Receives Award for Best VDSL Solution by ZDNet at CEeBIT 2002 In Communications Category HANOVER, Germany, CeBIT -- March 19, 2002 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- MRV Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: MRVC), a world class leader in network infrastructure products and services, was awarded best network VDSL solution in the category of Communications at the CeBit 2002 show by ZDNet, a leading Online-Magazine. ZDNet found that the Ethernet over VDSL (EoV) technology implemented in MRV's OptiSwitch(TM) family of products enables data transmission at a speed 12 times faster than with traditional DSL technology. "Internet users who employ MRV's Ethernet-over-VDSL technology will be able to download files from the Web and transmit data much faster than they would over traditional DSL technology," says Guy Avidan, Vice President of MRV International. Part of the OptiSwitch(TM) solution of modular service-aware switching-routing system, the Ethernet over VDSL is ideal for creating high speed residential access networks, as well as deploying high-speed networks in Multi-Tenant and Multi-Dwelling Units. The solution includes an OptiSwitch module, a Splitter and a Customer Premises Equipment unit (CPE). The Ethernet over VDSL products are QAM based, which enables the creation of a high-speed link of up to 10 Mbps of full-duplex Ethernet traffic to a distance of up to 1200 m, in parallel to the POTS or ISDN service. So far, Ethernet based VDSL solutions have been limited to private networks, and to relatively short distances. Mr. Avidan commented, "The EoV solution allows our customers to obtain a complete set of new revenue generating services using already existing same copper lines. Coupled with the unique flexibility of our OptiSwitch(TM), and our complete offering of optical wireless products, we now offer the industry one of the most extensive product portfolios for the Access Network." To ease the deployment of the Ethernet over VDSL solution, MRV has introduced an Automatic Link Integrity (ALI(TM)), Line Quality and Self-Healing tool. This tool automatically senses degradation of line quality, and applies a series of error correction algorithms, carrier rate modifications and line rate modulation in order to provide the highest quality of service. Mr. Avidan continued: "Carriers and Internet Service Providers have wasted a lot of time and money on solving deployment problems in ADSL. Many times when a new E1/T1 line was added, it changed the physical conditions in the bundle and caused problems for tens of DSL subscribers.
